AP Pension deposit interest rates
We offer a number of investment options in the average interest rate category. Average interest rate is for those who prioritize stability and security of their savings and payouts.
In the average interest rate category, you receive a deposit interest rate set by AP Pension. This is generally set year by year, but in years when there are major fluctuations in the financial markets, we may adjust the deposit interest rate during the year. Average interest rate is characterized by the fact that the return levels out in order to avoid major fluctuations. This means that in years when there are good market returns, we make sure to set money aside for years when the return is not as good.
In the table below, you can see the various investment options at AP Pension in the average interest rate category. The table shows whether there is a guarantee, whether new customers can make contributions and what the current deposit interest rate before tax is.

Guaranteed interest rate and guaranteed performance
Guaranteed performance is a guarantee that your pension benefit will be minimum amount on the agreed pension date. Guaranteed performance means that the agreed pension benefit cannot be reduced as a result of poor returns, for example.
Guaranteed interest rate means that a certain interest rate on the savings is guaranteed. The interest rate may be reduced for new contributions, but the guaranteed interest rate continues to apply to the amount saved at the time of the interest rate reduction.
Rate protection
In the event of major falls in the financial markets, it may be necessary for AP Pension to introduce rate protection for a period of time. Rate protection means that you will have to pay a percentage of your savings if you withdraw or move your pension savings (also in connection with a change of job).
You can see the applicable rates for rate protection as at August 23, 2024
- R1 G82 (average interest rate 0–1 percent)
- Rate protection before pension yield tax: 0 percent
The rate protection applies until further notice. The rates are calculated on an ongoing basis in relation to developments in the financial markets. You can see the applicable rates on this page and on the Insurance & Pension Denmark website.
What does rate protection mean?
Rate protection is a temporary measure to protect savings against losses in the event of major falls in the financial markets.
The market value of the underlying investments is normally greater than the value of the customers’ savings. This means that there are “collective reserves”, which are used to level out the return over time.
However, in times when the financial markets are turbulent, the market value may be lower than the savings. Rate protection is then introduced, and is a percentage corresponding to the difference between savings and market value.
Rate protection must ensure that remaining customers do not have to pay for losses on the savings for customers who leave the joint investment funds.
For customers who remain in the scheme, the rate protection has no significance and their guaranteed performance or guaranteed interest rate is still ensured.
If you leave AP Pension at a time when your savings are covered by rate protection – as you do when you withdraw or move your pension savings – you will have pay rate protection in addition to any other charges. This means that the amount you receive will correspond to your proportionate share of the market value.
