Our green investment targets
In order to actively support green development, we invest in a number of companies and projects that promote the green transition.
We have set ambitious green investment targets:
- In 2023, at least 15 percent of AP Pension’s total assets should be green investments.
- By 2025, at least 18 percent of AP Pension’s total assets should be green investments.
- By 2030, at least 25 percent of AP Pension’s total assets should be green investments.
Our previous target for green investments was 10 percent in 2023 and 20 percent in 2030. We decided to tighten the targets in September 2022.
Status of green investment and targets
We are constantly increasing our investment in the green transition by investing in renewable energy projects and green bonds, among other things. We report the percentage of green investment in our annual CSR report.
As part of our climate strategy, we have tightened the target for how much of our total assets should be invested in the green transition by 2030, namely 25 percent. This figure means that we are setting one of the most ambitious goals for green investment in the industry, and with our billion-krone investments we are helping to drive a green transition.
What are AP Pension’s green investments and how do we measure them?
In order to actively support green development, we invest in a number of companies and projects that promote the green transition.
Insurance and Pension Denmark has developed guidelines for how pension companies should measure green investment. We follow these guidelines, where green investments are defined as investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency improvements and the development of related downstream systems, such as investments in wind and solar energy, biomass, etc., energy efficiency improvements in buildings, etc., and transmission of electricity.
We will measure our green investment based on the EU taxonomy criteria from 2024, as recommended by Insurance and Pension Denmark.
Green energy
We invest in a number of alternative investments such as offshore wind turbines, onshore wind turbines, and solar panels. These investments support a sustainable transition of energy consumption and directly support the Paris Agreement.
Real estate
When we invest in construction in the future, we will focus on reducing the energy consumption of buildings and work to certify existing properties based on internationally recognized criteria. We also want to ensure that all newly built commercial buildings are DGNB certified (at least to Gold standard) and that all newly built homes have the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.
Green bonds
AP Pension invests in green bonds, which finance green projects that make a positive contribution to the climate and the environment. These are bonds with very low credit risk in the form of government and mortgage bonds, for example.
